Like
many individuals there has always been an affinity and deep appreciation for
fine art. The Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and the
Impressionist school became strong influences. More recent exposure to some of
Canada’s artists such as William Brymer, Illingworth Kerr, Dorothy Knowles, and
David Milne has only enriched personal understanding and appreciation. Unfortunately, at the time of high school
graduation, a few decades ago, a different career path was chosen in the field
of education. With retirement in the fall of 2014, a new life goal and career
was set which was to become a more active artist. Throughout the years,
interest in art was nurtured by attending the excellent Series program offered
at Red Deer College. A variety of classes from pastel to mixed media to
printmaking were taken. More recently
classes in pottery, glass fusion and encaustic wax painting were taken. The
University of Alberta, Faculty of Extension provides a further excellent
opportunity to develop and refine skills. Over the past years, recent
exhibitions include the Faculty of Extension gallery, Gallery 501 (Sherwood
Park), St. Albert gallery, Nina Haggerty (Edmonton) and the Loft gallery (Sherwood Park).
