Keep Painting Quilts

So in the summer I started to experiment with acrylic paints and I decided to start off quite simple as I had not used acrylics in a long time nor had I painted in a very long time (several decades for sure). I decided to start with painting quilt patterns. They are based on simple geometric shapes (square, triangle and occasionally the circle) and use bright vibrant colours. For me, it was a pretty obvious choice...learn about colour, paint,  and try to stay in the lines!  So now I have become "hooked". I am currently on my eighth quilt painting and I have plans to do several more at a much larger scale
 (24 x 24).

Sherwood Park Hospital Now Displaying Local Art!

The Sherwood Park Hospital is now displaying art work from the Strathcona Art Society. The pieces are quite small (less than 20 inches) and so the prices are great!! These works will remain on display (unless sold and then replaced with new works) until April 2018. I have one piece on display there. I also have several pastel works on display at the Misericordia Hospital. The art show at the Misericordia will run until February 3, 2018.  Lots of opportunity to view and, perhaps, purchase some great art!

Finally finished a "bigger" quilt painting!!

It took almost a week but I finally finished a larger acrylic quilt painting (20 x 20). I don't know if I will do any larger sizes (although I do have a couple of canvases sized 24 x 24). And now I return to my pastel paintings. I need to quite a few new pieces for a spring solo show in Sherwood Park. Paint..paint..paint.

Getting into Photography

During my visit to Drumheller last week I started to take some photographs at the Atlas Coal Mine. I have decided to frame a couple of these photos to see the public response. For the others, I will simply mat them for sale. I am hoping to have some of these photos in the Loft Gallery, Sherwood Park for the months of September and October.

Provincial Show in Sherwood Park-An Invitation

Yikes! It has been a while since I posted anything on my blog what with holiday travel, making sour cherry jam and family sickness (awful summertime colds) taking up most of my time in the last few weeks. I haven't even been able to get to do any art (although I am determined that next week I am setting time aside NO MATTER WHAT). I do want to mention that there is the Alberta Community Art Clubs Association show being held in Sherwood Park @ the Red Barn/Ottewell Centre, This show highlights winners from the three zone shows. It runs from July 19 to August 13 with the Red Barn being open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4. I was lucky enough to have a couple pieces in the show( although they did not win at the zone level). So, if you want to see some great art from across the province come on out!

The last two days were long but fruitful with many people coming out to the Red Barn/Ottewell Centre to see some great art. Thank you to everyone who came out! It was great to fun. And many people entered the draw for my door prize but, unfortunately, only one individual walked away with my fused glass pendant necklace.

And now I am off working on a series for an upcoming juried show. I will post images when the series is complete.

Long Day...Trip to Calgary

ROAD TRIP!! Today I had to go to Calgary to pick up my art work that was on display at the South Jubilee Auditorium. The drive was great with a few stops along the way to give my back a break  (had to stop at Red Deer's Home Sense and Winners...always great selection there!!!).

With my piece returned I immediately submitted it for consideration in a St. Albert show at the public art gallery. Here's hoping that it will be juried into the show.
